Giannino Marzotto was born in Valdagno on 13 April 1928. He graduated in law with full honours in 1950. In 1946, together with his father, he joined the “Manifattura Lane G. Marzotto & F. Spa” of which he became central director in 1953 and managing director in 1956. In 1958 he became vice-president and managing director, and then president in 1968. He stepped down from operative activities in 1969, during the “hot autumn”; he then began to promote innovative activities and devoted himself to the development of research initiatives: he helped, among other activities, to re-launch “Necchi spa” in Pavia of which he is still vice-president. In a letter to the Honourable Battaglia, Marzotto wrote of himself, “… At times I have had success in life without becoming proud, but also the bitterness of defeat without getting downhearted: I do not consider myself a victor but I do think I have the temperament of a fighter…”. From 1963 to 1967 he was president of the national woollen mills association.
He was well-known in his youth for such high-risk sporting activities as car racing (in 1950 and 1953 he won the Mille Miglia), aviation, rock-climbing, and underwater fishing.
