OSCAR FARINETTI: THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TRADE IN THE WORLD

Oscar Farinetti’s training was mostly in the field of economics: in fact, from 1972 to 1976 he studied economy and commerce in Turin before going to work for the family firm. From 1978 to 2003 he was principle adviser and then managing director and president of the UniEuro domestic appliance group. From 2002 to July 2003 he was on the board of Dixons, the British multinational firm, and, in the same year, he collaborated on teaching activities for the Cermes-Boccini institute as well as for Parma university. After having invented the Eataly format, which was inaugurated in Turin on 27 January 2007, in September 2008 he left the post of managing director while remaining president. In the meantime he followed the opening of other branches of Eataly: in Milan (October 2007), Tokyo (September 2008), and Bologna (December 2008 together with librerie.coop). In autumn 2009 he opened Eataly in New York.
